Valeo Cabin Air Filter Range

Air Pollution is a major public health issue. According to the World Health Organization, more than 90% of the world’s population lives in polluted areas. Emissions reduction has always been a major innovation driver at Valeo, in all of our market segments. Improving air quality for passengers is an integral part of our ambition to create safer mobility solutions.

A Comprehensive Range of Certified Highly Efficient Cabin Air Filters

Cabin air is potentially more polluted than outside air as pollution dissipates more quickly outside than inside. A car cabin is a confined area, particles, harmful gases and humidity can stagnate and accumulate inside the vehicle if it is not regularly ventilated, purified and cleaned.
The HVAC cabin air filter stops ultra fine particles (including some viral particles) with size over 0.3 microns in diameter with an efficiency above 95% according to official norms, ISO** 11155 Part 1 (with Dust ISO A2 – ISO fine dust).

**ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies).

A cabin air filter is made of 1 to 4 layers of non-woven textile media, which can offer 2 levels of technical filtration depending on the type of layers it is composed of: a mechanical filtration and a chemical filtration.

  • Mechanical filtration:

Depending on the media layers constituting the cabin air filter, the more efficient a filter is the smaller the particles blocked are. High efficiency cabin air filters are able to block more than 95% particles and contaminants over 0.3 µm by mechanical filtration, meaning these elements cannot cross the physical layers within the filter. As such, Valeo received CN-95 certification for cabin filters in 2020.

CN95 certification is issued by the CATARC Huacheng center (China Automotive Technology Research Center) and is the reference in automotive cabin air filters in China.

  • Chemical filtration:

As a first stage of chemical filtration, activated carbon (or activated charcoal) layer has specific properties that retain harmful gases, VOCs and odors, letting only pure air inside the cabin. Activated carbon is extremely porous with a very large surface area relative to the size of the actual carbon particle, which makes it an effective adsorbent material.

Valeo activated carbon filter’s efficiency against some harmful gases reaches up to 93% (N-butan – 180kg/h – 1min) according to test reference ISO 11155An additional natural coating may also be combined with the activated-carbon layer and rigid layer to limit the penetration of allergens as well as other very small contaminants. According to the ELISA** test, up to 96% allergens such as pollens entering the cabin are blocked. The ELISA test was done by an external laboratory (TUM Munich and AIRTEST) and we also received the certification from RNSA (Réseau National de Surveillance Aérobiologique)

**ELISA Test: The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is a commonly used analytical biochemistry assay. The ELISA is used as a diagnostic tool in medicine, plant pathology, and biotechnology, as well as a quality control check in various industries.

Valeo High Efficiency Cabin air filters Wasabi d AirIn Japan, Valeo also developed a technology plugged to the cabin air filter coated with wasabi. Wasabi d’Air® is a natural deodorant for car air conditioners in Japan. From 2017 to 2019, the Wasabi d’air® was the “Minkara Part of the Year” in the category of “Air Fresheners and Deodorant”. Minkara, one of Japan’s largest social networking services related to car usage, is a reference for car supplies and word-of-mouth information on maintenance.
